Listen people, please do not burn your New Balance shoes. Burning rubber is terrible for the environment. Don’t throw them in the garbage either. They are perfectly good shoes. Don’t be wasteful: donate them to charity so that people who cannot afford shoes this winter can have something to keep their feet warm. The ability to boycott brands is a privilege that not all enjoy.

There is an allegory I like about two children. One of them is very active and adventurous and she goes through two pairs of shoes each winter. The other is very dainty on her feet and needs only one pair. If their parents treated them equally, then either one kid would have more shoes than she needed, or one would be barefoot for part of the year. What they really need is not equal treatment but different treatment to achieve equality.
